Ik ga op reis en ik neem mee....

.... een hele stapel boeken. Iets spannends, iets luchtigs, iets degelijks, iets heel anders-dan-anders. Niets fijner dan lekker lezen op vakantie! En daarom nam ik de afgelopen jaren altijd een krat boeken mee. Nam, want dit jaar neem ik alleen een klein, licht apparaatje mee met daarin een hele bibliotheek. Ik heb hem al uitgetest op het strand in de felle zon, en het werkt! 

Zo'n mooi apparaatje vraagt om een minstens zo mooi jasje. 

Dus mijn eerste vrije dag van de zomervakantie ging ik op zoek naar stofjes. Winkelen in eigen kast. En blijkbaar had ik zin in blauw:

Ik moest me eerst even voorstellen aan mijn naaimachine, ik kan me de laatste keer niet eens meer herinneren (ik zou natuurlijk door m'n blog kunnen scrollen, slimmerik). Maar na een proeflapje broddelen en wat rommelen met klosjes en spoeltjes ging het als vanouds.

Zonder plan ging ik aan de slag met de uitgezochte stofjes. Op een ondergrond van fleece, want lekker zacht voor de e-reader, stikte ik lapjes en strookjes en nog meer strookjes.

Niks rechts en strak uitgemeten, maar knippen uit de losse pols voor een lekker 'wanky'  effect. En omdat ik toch in een alle-tijd-van-de-wereld-modus zat (vakantie! vrij!) zocht ik het borduurvoetje erbij en krulde ik beide blokken vol. 

Ontdekking: fleece glijdt nauwelijks over de naaimachine. 

Zwaar klusje dus, met als voordeel dat ook het quiltwerk er nu extra 'wanky' uitziet ;-)

En toen lag er zomaar een heus e-reader hoesje aan het einde van de middag. 

Geen technisch hoogstandje, maar functioneel genoeg om mijn nieuwe favoriete apparaat met een gerust hart in mijn tas te kunnen stoppen (zodat het bij die ene kras op het scherm blijft!).

Next time I go shopping at the market, go to the library, beach, swimmingpool, or other place where you need lots of stuff (or will buy lots of stuff):

trying to sew

After a flu-ish week I had no courage to sew a camel or a king, so I did some free-seewing today. Months ago I made a few blocks, sort of  log cabin, and today was a good day to use those blocks for some freestyle practise with the sewing machine!

The plan is to make a bag of it, I'll show you when it's done, here's a collage (yeah my first Picasa-collage!) of the quilting:

I tried different patterns (and sometimes it felt more like surviving to synchronize hands and feet, I'm quite sure I'll feel the muscles in my arms tomorrow, no gym for me anymore!). Practise makes perfect I guess....

Thanks for all your comments and emails about the Nativityproject, it really helps me to go on with it!

First time

A few days ago I received a parcel, with a darning foot for my singer. Today I had enough courage to try it.

And these are the first tryings - no, it's not my little daughter who played with my sewing machine :)

And it's also interesting to see it up-side-down!

And here's another experiment... lots lots lots to learn. I guess (hope) that practise makes perfect!

Delftblue sewing!

As I wrote before, I started to quilt the Delftblue one with my Singer. I've done smaller projects before, but this is the first quilt (size: single bed) that I sew with my machine.

I talked to an older quilting lady the other day and she told me that only quilting by hand is quilting, otherwise it's sewing, not quilting. She said in a very strong way, so I got a feeling of being a very bad girl to think there is something like quilting on a machine...

As you see I use red thread, it really gives a bit of power to it. I combine sewing in the ditch and just straight lines, depending on the pattern of the blocks.

It's more difficult than I thougt it would be, but I like the effect. It's half done, I hope to finish it soon!

Tomorrow it's time for another Nativity block!
