A new machine and a new quilt

Last day of the year, time for flashbacks... but also time for something completely new: a Janome 2030 QC!

After lots of trouble with my old (ancient) Singer I really really really wanted a new sewing machine. And here it is! 

And since I don't have to work these days I used it to make a cute little baby-quilt, in fresh Dutch colours..

The best thing of this quilt: EVERY stitch is perfect. I'm so happy with my new best friend!

Delftblue sewing!

As I wrote before, I started to quilt the Delftblue one with my Singer. I've done smaller projects before, but this is the first quilt (size: single bed) that I sew with my machine.

I talked to an older quilting lady the other day and she told me that only quilting by hand is quilting, otherwise it's sewing, not quilting. She said in a very strong way, so I got a feeling of being a very bad girl to think there is something like quilting on a machine...

As you see I use red thread, it really gives a bit of power to it. I combine sewing in the ditch and just straight lines, depending on the pattern of the blocks.

It's more difficult than I thougt it would be, but I like the effect. It's half done, I hope to finish it soon!

Tomorrow it's time for another Nativity block!

The Delft blue one

A few months ago I started with this top,made of different blue fabrics. It's almost finished, I only want to make a few more blocks on it at the long sides.

This one is for my youngest son, and his name is...

I used fabric with a Delft-blue print, extra special because he was born in ... Delft. The lightblue fabric is from an old duvet cover of his parents. Nice, isn't it?

I think I will quilt it with red thread, to give it a little more power.
